A convoluted knot of evasions and diversions

We learned almost nothing from Attorney General William Barr's appearance before the Senate yesterday; his testimony was a convoluted knot of evasions and diversions designed to confuse, rather than clarify.

But despite Barr's attempts to be as unhelpful and opaque as possible, we can draw a handful of important conclusions:

  • Barr – our nation's chief law enforcement officer – believes that there's nothing wrong with a sitting president instructing his attorney to lie to federal investigators.
  • When he's caught undermining our legal system, Barr has absolutely no remorse.
  • Barr will sink as low as he needs to – misleading Congress and the American people, betraying his friends, mangling the law – in order to protect Donald Trump.

Our system of government depends on the integrity of our public officials; when those officials show themselves to be as deeply dishonest and unprincipled as Barr, we must hold them accountable.

That's why I'm calling on William Barr to resign his post as the Attorney General, effective immediately.
